It’s been really bothering me ever since I came to college. Isn’t it illegal for the majority of undergraduates to drink since they’re under 21? Then why does it seem like everybody’s okay with it…? Even those in a position of authority seem to turn a blind eye to it, probably because they realize that they’re never going to stop it completely…
So I went to a birthday party for my project team’s lead, who just turned 21. And as people were drinking (obviously I didn’t), I was just sitting there wondering, why is everyone okay with this? And also, I couldn’t really tell that people were getting drunk either. I was asking another sober person, and he couldn’t explain it to me. The way they acted… they seemed a bit less reserved I guess, a bit more silly… but no real change. But like… I’m silly a lot of the time anyways. I was even called out for “pretending to be drunk” for acting like myself. If that’s the case, then many of my friends act drunk a lot of the time as well. There’s nothing wrong with drinking per se, but there is with breaking the law (and overdrinking, but that’s a different story). And I don’t even get why. Can people just not be themselves without alcohol? I don’t understand.
